I’m Challenging — And Challenged…
I’m what I call “Technologically Functionally Illiterate”. That means I can make these blasted gadgets, devices, and services do their basic functions. 7 times out of 10 I can get them to do what I need them to do.
It’s those 3 OTHER times that probably drive my husband to thoughts of divorce – or worse. When Technology frustrates me, it’s Nuclear Frustration. Such as this morning when all I wanted to do was charge my Motorola Razr V3 from my laptop. Yeah…right. First, there wasn’t a driver. Then the file was a zip file – and somewhere along the line we downloaded WinZip – and the evaluation version had expired. And the registered version we DO have has “known incompatibilities” with Vista. (Yeah, can’t wait for October when Windows 7 gets here – and I don’t want to hear “get a Mac” – not an option. So, don’t.) Finally got WinZip uninstalled to use Windows Explorer to open the zip file. Loaded the driver – then it didn’t work, because I didn’t read the “reboot to fully install”.
Great was the frustration of plug in cell phone and charge. Now it does that. But that threw off my entire plan for the morning. Things are better now…finally figured out lunch. It was not satisfying, but there’s food in me, so maybe I won’t be stupid this afternoon. It’s a weird Friday…
