[Writer Blog] Knowing My Way
New year… and I’ve just read what I want my “motto†to be – and I’d totally be stealing it from what Joss Whedon says about Felicia Day at the very end of his forward to her book, You’re Never Weird on the Internet (almost)…
If you wanna survive, stay close to the redhead. She knows her way.

I have a long, long way to go before I can say I know my way, but that’s the GOAL. That and Getting Stuff Done. I don’t do Resolutions (like diets, they’re doomed to fail), but I can do goals. And I’m ready to be… BETTER. By being better it’s part of that “knowing her way†– it’s being MORE… more diligent, more professional, which (hopefully) will turn into more prolific. And one LESS thing – less procrastinating. I’ve put stuff off that shouldn’t have ever been put off. That stops now.
Last night I built my Amazon Author page. It’s one more way to get the word out. And… now, I need to do the classic “Author Plea†of…If you’ve read anything by me – Tarbox, Redheads, any of the anthologies… please go leave a review (if you’re the reviewing type). The more I read up, the more important they are (and I probably need to be better about doing some reviews, too). Not only does it help authors get exposure, but I’m sure it’s good for the smaller presses, too. And hopefully by also being able to add my events there that’s just more people who have the opportunity to see them and maybe show up.
ASIDE: SUNDAY, JANUARY 24, 2016 – come see me at the Northwest Highway (Flagship) Half-Price Books from 1-3 pm. Bring your friends and your wallets. Show the store that people read A LOT!
The other thing I’m working on this month is getting my independent chapbooks up on Amazon as ebooks. Amazon is the 500lb Publishing Gorilla and is an income stream. It’s also a bullet that needed biting – and it’ll make all the ebooks (small press and other) more uniform. It’s something I should’ve done A LONG, LONG time ago, but hesitated. Occasionally, I go through “get off my lawn†moments of “It’s too much tech! I can’t do it!†– which is NOT how a good redhead should be. So, here I am, stepping out of my comfort zone and Doing The Thing.
Time to find my way – and get stuff done. Words on paper. Those have to happen, too. I’m seriously going to have to schedule out the projects – Oh so many projects. Time to move my…pen.
