[Writing Post] Technology, Amazon, & SoonerCon
Oh, hi, Wednesday! How are you? I’m still fighting with technology. If anyone ever wondered why I dig pen and paper so much, the last couple of weeks would be why. I never proclaimed to be technologically savvy. I’m “functionally literate”. I don’t need bells and whistles. I just want my tech to function in the manner in which it was designed.
The current bane of my existence is the Adobe Flash Player – and the fact it doesn’t want to play well with browsers any more. John Anealio has a song on one of his albums called “Steve Jobs Hates Flash”. Well, brothers and sisters, he ain’t the only one. But it’s also some other things – like plugins that aren’t on certain sites that I need to work through. But eventually it’ll all get worked out, I hope. I still have my hair and haven’t left a bloody smear on my desk. Yet.
There’s been some developments in the on-going (yes, it’s still going on) battle between Amazon and Hachette. Further details are starting to come out about what the issues are. It does factor around ebooks and revenue splits. But there’s a lot more … STUFF … going on there that may or may not be bargaining chips for future negotiations, but there are some aspects of it that are very… interesting (in the Chinese proverb sense). It’s worth the read to be informed – because this, like religion and politics has some very polarizing/polarized sides. And there’s no quick fix.
But… on the upside, I’ve been writing. And SOONERCON is this weekend. I so…so can’t wait for SoonerCon. I like shows like Dallas Comic Con, but the literary, fan-run conventions are the ones where I can be immersed in “my people” and recharge my creative juices and energies and lets all the stuff go. Then maybe I won’t be as cranky with portions of my Day Job (oh, come on, conventions are GREAT and all, but they’re not magic).
Come to SoonerCon. It’s going to be AWESOME! See you in Oklahoma City!
