[Pen/Pencil Review] Sarasa Green 0.7mm Gel Ink
Okay, so I’m finally getting the pen blog done today. This one has been waiting around for me for a while. I think it was a birthday pen – I don’t think anything’s left over from Christmas…I hope. This week is the Sarasa Green 0.7mm.
Sarasa is part of the Zebra Pen family. They actually call their 0.7mm gel ink pens a “medium” point – which I completely agree with. Thank You Sarasa for not “sizing up”. I would still prefer the 0.5mm, but I don’t find those often. These pens use acid-free, archival quality gel ink. As with any gel ink there’s a bit of smearing, but it’s not a bad dry time.
The Sarasa line – including this one – is about 5.5″ long with the tip retracted and extended. The tip is stainless steel. The ink is really a lime or light green – which is too light for me. I prefer the darker green of the forest. The clip and clicker are a light, olive green. The rubberized grip makes this pen fairly comfortable to write with.
This Sarasa line doesn’t seem to have refills, but I have found that like with Pilot G2s, the ink does fit in other rollerball pens if you want to harvest the ink and put in a different barrel. These come in single and multipacks. They are relatively inexpensive and available at most office supply stores.
The Numbers.
1. How does it work? – 0.5 – This is a solid, utility pen. It’s inexpensive. It comes in a lot of colors. Some of the fashion colors, like this green, are too light for me. But the regular colors are okay.
2. Look and feel – 0.5 – It’s a bit short for me to find a good balance with it (which is probably why I know the ink inserts fit in other barrels). And the colors are all just a shade off from matching. The grip could be squishier
3. Material – 1 – It’s an inexpensive utility pen. It is what it is, and it’s solid for what it is. The clip is plastic, but really tough to break off.
4. Overall Design – 0.5 – It’s okay. It’s functional. It’s not anything special, but it’s not meant to be. There are foibles but it’s okay.
5. Price Point – 1 – These things are cheap. Just over $1 no matter how you buy them – available in 5 packs, 10 packs, and by the dozen. If you have to have a pen stolen, this is one you don’t have to cry over.
3.5 out of 5 bronze pencils.
