The Bic Atlantis Retractable With Green Ink
I still have a couple of pens from Christmas – I know that’s a shocker. This is one of them. It’s the BIC Atlantis retractable in green ink. That I should love but find rather…meh.
This is not a favorite pen. Sorry, Bic… but when they get into the bigger points – like the 1.0mm, which I believe this one is – it might be a 1.2mm (which isn’t better in my opionion), the green ink loses a whole lot in vibrancy. It’s never been a really dark, rich green to begin with, but this one seems even less saturated and dense. It doesn’t smear and glop as much as others, so that’s something but not enough.
The pen is about 5.75†long both retracted and with the point out, which isn’t a bad length. It does have an attempt at a padded, ergonomic grip, but the hourglass-type wave to the body doesn’t fit my hand as well as I think they would like. I don’t know if they expect it to hit my thumb web at the narrow part or the upper wide part – but either way it doesn’t work.
I expect there are people who love this pen because they seem to sell pretty well. So it might just be me.
The numbers:
1. How does it work? – 0.5 It’s decent. No frills. But the ink is not dark enough for me and point is too big.
2. Grip and feel – 0.5 – It’s an inexpensive, plastic, no frills pen. Very little padding on the “ergonomic “ grip.
3. Material – 0.5 It’s okay for what it is. It retracts fairly solidly. But it’s an inexpensive retractable pen.
4. Overall Design – 0.5 -It’s a basic retractable ballpoint pen with a nod to ergonomics.
5. Price Point – 0.5 – They run $1-2 apiece. Mostly in multi-packs unless you find them at a register or something for a one off. But if you buy them “cheaply†it’s going to be in bulk, so you better like them.
