[Pen/Pencil Review] The Premiere Pen P1 in Green
I know it’s April Fool’s Day, but I’m not going to try to trick you into thinking there’s no pen review or some other prank. Frankly, I’m a punster and a jokester of opportunity – April Fool’s Jokes/Pranks take thought and planning that I just don’t take the time to plan out. So…today… a straight forward pen review for the Premier Pen P1.
The Premiere Pen P1 was a Kickstarter project that Jimmy backed last year and gave me for Christmas. It’s an interesting thing. It’s a machined aluminum pen case for the Pilot Hi-Tec-C or G-Tec refills, which I do like.
The pen is about 5.5†long with the cap on – and not much different without the cap, because the cap doesn’t post. It’s just over 0.25†in diameter which is a decent width – which is part of the Pilot Hi-Tec-C that isn’t as awesome as the ink. It’s an aluminum tube with a threaded cap. The threads are right near the tip and only dig in if you really choke down on the point.
I ended up with the anodized aluminum in green with a green refill. It’s pretty. I’m pretty sure Jimmy got me the 0.3mm because he knows my fondness for both green and ultra-fine points. Though I know it’s not a fiber tip, it sometimes feels like that. It’s the scratchy quality to the point that someone else pointed out.
The numbers:
1. How does it work? – 1 – It’s a new house for a great refill. The ink has always looked and worked great.
2. Grip and feel – 1 – It’s a cool metal tube with no frills and no ergonomic grip besides the diameter. The cap threads are far enough down that it shouldn’t dig. The weight is light but sturdy and well-balanced.
3. Material – 1 It’s cool anodized aluminum. It might ding over time, but it’s built to last.
4. Overall Design – 0.5 – This is going down a peg simply because the cap doesn’t post. You have to take it off and keep track of the bugger. The cap also completely blends into the pen so you have to pay attention to which end it’s on.
5. Price Point – 0.5 – There really isn’t one…yet. They’ve done a Kickstarter project – which was funded and those commitments have gone out (or I wouldn’t have one). But they’re not in production yet, and they don’t seem to have a price point list up yet. But it looks like it might be $20-$25… which is steep for everyday, but it is an artisan pen and refillable – so you’ll get your investment back…eventually.
I give it 4 out of 5 Bronze Pencils
