[Writer Post] In Two Parts… Part One…Crowdfunding Question
I’m doing this in two parts, because I don’t want either one to be lost. Part 1… this. Part 2 ApolloCon
I posted this question on Facebook yesterday… still looking for some answers that don’t require a lengthy phone call (I’m spending way too much time on the phone lately — it’s not my strong suit). I would like input on this from anyone/everyone…
I have a CrowdFunding/Kickstarter question…seriously…if an author uses this kind of financial sourcing to get a project written, what’s the future value to both the author and the fan?
I would assume the fans that fund the project get the project as the “incentive” to fund. And though not all fans would do the funding project, where’s the future profit/incentive to the author? Or would it simply be a pre-paid thing?
Would future sales simply be from any newly created fan/reader? I’m asking seriously. It’s come up in a conversation about an option for self-publishing. I’ve never been good at just ASKING for money, so crowdfunding has also held a weird vibe to me, but now I’m looking to be educated. (Though I still fall prey to the fear of if I did this, would anyone really pitch in?)
