[Spotlight Post] Shanna Swendson and the Enchanted Series
This week’s spotlight is on Shanna Swendson, a fellow Dallas/Fort Worth author, FenCon Staff Member, and fangirl. If it weren’t for Shanna and our friends, Todd and Sam, I would have never discovered Phineas and Ferb (it’s all their fault). Though I’ve mentioned her work before in blog posts, it’s been quite a while, and she’s relaunching her website soon which should be announcing her newest project.

For those who haven’t yet read her Enchanted series. WHY NOT? I’ve had the pleasure of addicting one of my best friends and my niece to this humorous urban fantasy (with touches of romance) and now it’s your turn. There are four books in print starting with Enchanted, Inc going through Don’t Hex with Texas.

This series follows the professional and personal life of Katie Chandler who, when she moves to New York, discovers a whole new magical world that she can see right through. She has absolutely no magic whatsoever and can’t be affected by it. Her lack-of-talent lands her a decent job requiring her to save the world…more than once. Of course, her life is complicated by roommates she can’t tell the truth to. A gorgeous co-worker she has a huge crush on and may or may not reciprocate. And a new outlook on life that she doesn’t necessarily want.

What I love about this series is that it’s just…fun. Shanna doesn’t mind that I call it “chocolate” reading. It’s not huge and heavy and dark. I don’t like huge and heavy and dark–at least not all the time. I have to have a break after a while. I need something light and fluffy. Kind of like you can see all the meaty, weighty movies, but after a while you need a good shot of Avengers or This Means War where you’re simply entertained. That’s what Shanna Swendson does. She entertains with her books.

So if you haven’t read the Enchanted series, what are you waiting for? Go check them out. You won’t be sorry. You can ask Nora and Suzanne, who when they asked to borrow one (or two), I made them take all four. They thanked me later. So will you. And check Shanna’s website for some new news that will make many people very, very happy probably in July.
