[Pen Review] The Padrino Demonstrator from Paradise Pen Company
On the way to ConDFW this year, my husband and I stopped by Paradise Pen Company in the Dallas Galleria to buy ink for our TWSBI Diamond 530s – which he bought “us” for my birthday. We chatted with the guys there – and drooled over the Pens Which I Can’t Afford – when the Padrino Clear Demonstrator all but jumped out of the case. Padrino is an exclusive brand to Paradise Pen Company.
The Padrino Demonstrator comes in two styles – fountain and roller ball – and in two colors – clear and a gray smoke. Now, I like to see my ink levels and just liked the clear better. My choice was – ahem, clearly – the fountain pen. The Padrino fountain pen is well-balanced with a good weight and stainless steel hardware. The pen comes with a converter for bottled ink, but also takes an international cartridge. Not that I’ve used anything but bottled ink in it – currently I have Private Reserve DC Supershow Blue in it. The one quibble is that sometimes refilling the pen with the converter can be a bit…messy.
The nib is a fine point stainless steel with no etching, giving it a clean line running into to a polished stainless grip that has ergonomic finger dimples for a comfortable writing experience that also just makes it look cool. I found it smooth and easy to write with for long periods of time.
The Padrino Demonstrator was very reasonably priced at $25 at the time in store. This makes the Padrino and affordable, solid fountain pen suitable for everyday fountain pen use for any level of user – new adopter to connoisseur. Paradise Pen Company did well in choosing a good, workhorse of a pen to price in this range when it could easily cost much more. I give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 bronze pencils.
