[Website] GoDaddy Saga Part 2
So if anyone at home has not been beaten over the head with my website woes of last week – the first part of the story is a public story on LiveJournal – here. There have been some developments since that writing, and – especially for the one user on LiveJournal – here’s the follow up.
Anyway, while I was fighting with Domains by Proxy and GoDaddy via Twitter and Facebook, I got a call from their Office of the President wanting to “clear up any misunderstandings”. Now, I don’t do phones well. I prefer email or instant messages for both the ability to edit one’s responses and to have a “paper trail”. I want proof of what’s been offered or said in case something goes wrong (my screenplay contract two years ago an example when I misread the deadlines, my goober – not the client’s but since it was in writing, it was verifiable).
During the exchange, I went ahead and bought www.RhondaEudaly.net from HostGator and started my webhosting there with the backup files they’d already transferred. Only to find out – even without renewing my webhosting, GoDaddy is still keeping www.RhondaEudaly.com active.
I sent all the communication thus far with Domains by Proxy to GoDaddy’s Office of the President. They talked to whoever may be human at Domains by Proxy (I’m still not certain I ever did). Within a couple of HOURS of that exchange, I received all the AUTOMATED instructions for retrieving my log in information to release the privacy lock on my DNS server so it can be transferred to HostGator.
Of course…there is still one major rub. I’m still waiting for WHOIS to send some kind of email confirming I want this transfer to occur – THAT can take 5 – 7 days. Since this began on Friday late afternoon and Monday was a holiday – this may not be resolved until after SoonerCon this weekend.
GoDaddy still wants to talk about refunds and stuff because I put a small but public black eye on their company. I even filed a BBB complaint against them. I kinda want a refund for the $8.99 Domain by Proxy charge that I was forced to pay because of the billing structure, but mainly I just want to be done with them.
I’m current double posting to both websites (but only syndicating www.RhondaEudaly.com while it’s still live). When the transfer occurs, the .NET account will point/mirror/whatever .COM. All email works for now, and no lawyers had to be involved.
