[Writer Blog] Same Song Second Verse
What? Take Your Dog to Work Day isn’t UNTIL JUNE??? What? I thought it was today… oh, wait, that’s me working at home today… It’s another icy, snowy, cold day in Texas. It’s been a crazy week for us here in Texas. We’ve had more “snow days” in the last 10 days than in the last 10 years – more or less.
The thing about this kind of unusual weather (though not *really* unusual…if there’s going to be severe winter weather, it’s gonna be in February in Texas) is that it plays havoc with what little sense of “normal” I have – especially as a writer. In a way I’ve been MORE productive this week (and this winter), I’ve also struggled. A lot of things have had to be rearranged, rescheduled, or flat out canceled because of the weather which throws off the habits. On the other hand, being kinda stuck inside blows away all excuses not to write.
I have been boogieing along with some projects this last week. There’s always more to do – ALWAYS more to do. But I’m making progress. I’ve written on both collaborative projects – with one, I’m waiting for the partner to get back to me; with the other, well, I just need to be further along anyway. This has been good to be motivated to get stuff done, now to do more of that. Like maybe tonight, with a fire in the fireplace. It’s cold enough. 😎
For the Random Things: I hope to see many of you next week at ConDFW. If you’re in the DFW area, you should come – Tim Powers, Jack McDevitt, Brandon Sanderson, Brad Foster – and all Four Redheads of the Apocalypse along with MANY, MANY others. ConDFW is Feb. 18-20…so you can help me celebrate My Year of The ANSWER to Life the Universe and Everything.
