Diamond’s Very Bad Day – Loki, the New Family Member
So, we decided after Dixon passed that once we got through June (get Scarborough and two Conventions over), we’d get another dog – as Jimmy’s allergic to cats. We decided to start the search this weekend. The first trip didn’t go so well, but a friend at church pointed me to Petfinder.com.
This is after Diamond had a bad morning. With all the weather she hasn’t been wanting to go out, and piddled on the floor (she’s 9 years old) and threw a tantrum when Jimmy chastised her for it and was “grounded” for a while.
We found a puppy that we wanted to check out, found out the shelter was doing a “meet the pets day” at nearish PetsMart, so we went. Well, THAT puppy wasn’t there, but Loki was. He was PRE-NAMED. We didn’t choose the name.. He’s ~8 months old, has all his shots, fixed, tested heartworm negative – all that stuff. He’s a Red Heeler (Diamond is a Blue Heeler). He’s the right size, a little older than Jimmy was thinking (to give Diamond more “bonding” time), but he’s very submissive and QUIET. We haven’t really heard a sound out of him.
He traveled well in the car. The first meeting between dogs wasn’t as traumatic as it could’ve been. Diamond is still having a bad day – there’s a new dog in the house. He is submissive. She is not. She’s gotten snappy a couple of times – and is currently grounded again for throwing a tantrum at me. We took a walk, which went well – up to a nearby school where everyone gets to run – Loki went the wrong way and ended up in a street (through the gates). We caught him, but it was scary for the moment. We all took a nap in the same room. No blood was shed. No dog fights.
There could be hope. The real kick will come when Diamond realizes he’s not leaving. We do have a “Week Trial”. The shelter is letting us do a “trial run” for a week. If the dogs don’t get along, we can take him back. I don’t wanna do that. Loki licks my face and hides behind my legs and loves ME. 😎

Welcome, Loki! It’s always nice when the dogs likes the humans.
You have no idea. Diamond tolerates me – pretends to like me sometimes, but I’m still Evil Stepmom. Now, after 24 hours, he’s starting to get playful. This is about to be interesting…
