The End Is Nigh…And New Beginnings
Tomorrow is the final day for Scarborough Renaissance Festival. It’s a bittersweet time, since it’s like Summer Camp for me. We don’t do the “circuit” so we don’t travel with these folks. We’re vendors so we don’t spend two months rehearsing with the performers. I love that a lot are on Facebook and Twitter so I can put real names with real faces during the year.
HOWEVER, I will not miss the costuming or the “Let’s Suddenly Be Texas Summer” weather.
Today was a very good day for the final weekend. Sales were pretty good. I got to see a Queen Anne’s Lace show that ROCKED (if you get to see one of their gigs – DO IT. Beautiful and talented women who also know the value of Geekdom – what a crazy random happenstance!!) During their show, I received some VERY GOOD NEWS which I can’t share details to just yet — writing related — which I didn’t get until AFTER I got back to the booth. But it was very exciting.
And I have not succumbed to the heat completely yet, but I’m going back to one of my original garb outfits tomorrow that does not require a bodice because I can’t bring myself to lace back into one in 90+ degree heat. That’s the best part of being a vendor…a wee bit of flexibility in garb. I feel for all the participants in “nobility” with their velvets and brocades.
Next up… a whole new bit of “garb”. I trade Medieval Merchant Girl for “Next Trailer Park Model” girl. If you want to know more about that, you’ll just have to come to Soonercon in OKC to see that.
