Speed vs. Accuracy
This may become my StrangeWords article this week – or not.
I just “re-upped” everything at a temp. service I’ve used before. They’re a company where you have to re-do a lot of the employment paperwork if you don’t work for them for six months.
Apparently when I did everything *8* months ago, I didn’t do my typing and 10-key test (it’s more office work temp service than creative). I didn’t realize it either and was surprised to have to do it. Which means I wasn’t “prepared” for it. Now I know I shouldn’t do the warm ups, or at least not all of them.
The tests were fair. The typing one had big hard words, and is word processing so you can fix your mistakes – it’s still timed though. I ended up choosing to fix them as I went – mentally choosing accuracy over speed. I felt like I should’ve typed faster than 45 WPM (I know I have in the past), but I ended up with a 97% accuracy rating. And I think that’s a personal decision we all make at one point.
Which leads into NaNoMo vs. Smaller Word counts – and the fact that one isn’t necessarily better than the other, just different. Yeah… I can turn this writerly. Let me go do that.
And then work on a Bubba story that I forgot was this month. D’OH!!!! Okay, bigger word counts for me. 😎
And yes, Silver Lining Girl is starting to win.
