The Joys of Editing/Rewriting

Posted by reudaly on November 24, 2008 in Writing |

Last week I “fell off” my novel. I realized I hit a stumbling point where I’d repeated myself and lost track of the story. So I printed out what I had written to date to edit, fix, and get back on track.

Some authors tell you not to do that, that you never go forward if you keep going back. In a lot of cases that’s true, but this needed to be done.

And yeah, I’m glad I’m doing it. It may have been Chapter 2 when I was using the Fly Fusion Pen. When I did the transition from the pen to the file, I had to do a LOT of clean up. Yeah, that was the all mighty failed experiment. I thought I got it pretty much good — until now. I’m finding all kinds of things I missed back then. So, in this case, going back is turning out to be a GOOD THING. A very good thing.

I’ve got to get both this book and me back on track despite the holidays starting this week.
