Crazy Random Happenstance Friday — Self-Promotion
Never underestimate the value of understated, yet blatant, self-promotion. Sometimes it works.
I need to always carry my promotional stickers with me. I had them today for a specific reason and am very, very glad. Also, being tossed out of your routine is a good thing too…
I’m at a different table at Collins/Lamar Starbucks today (they have a kick butt Morning Crew). My sticker in on my laptop. Three people have commented on it — two took a sticker or two. All stopped to talk about writing, who I am, what I do, etc.
And it wasn’t even 8 a.m. It was a crazy, random way to do some networking/business.
I like it. So, moral of the story… if you have odd promotional stuff — like stickers that say “Short Fiction Saves Trees” — visible, be prepared to have some to give away, and be prepared to talk about ’em.
Yeah, this is why I write at Starbucks. Caffeine and networking. Also people watching. Crazy, random people in Starbucks, too.
