The Dangers of Being “Normal” and Multi-Tasking

Posted by reudaly on November 20, 2008 in Writing |

I was just told I was “normal”. That’s both comforting and saddening. Gotta love the mixed messages.

See, here’s the deal… I tend to multi-task. I continually have more than one project going at a time. Efficient on one hand, not so much on the other. Because what’s happened is that in catching up, I’ve discovered one project has completely derailed. I’ve lost track of the story. I’m repeating myself. I’ve left giant holes in my story.

So what I’ve had to do is print out what I have (which is less than 50 pages, so not a HUGE undertaking) read through – do minor some minor correcting and then basically trash a whole lot of my handwriting stuff that needed to be typed in and start over from where I’ve stopped and hopefully get the story back on track. Yikes.

Fortunately, the other story that I’ve been working on like that is a lot better at throwing the ninjas in to kill everyone and moving on.

It happens to all writers. It’s not a big deal, but it’s a pitfall that I danced into willingly. Blarg. Time to go back and dig myself out.
