Words: dreamscape, convince, pioneer, genesis, cumulous, jump, mash, condition, erase, gold

Story

My gut wrenched every time I saw the gold-edged sign on the front lawn. Also, the front lawn, it was never in this good of condition before the sign. I had to convince myself it was for the best. Erase the past for a future genesis. But still it wasn’t easy to mash down the sick feeling.

“It’s like a storybook dreamscape with all the cumulous clouds piled around like that.”

I tried not to jump at the voice. I should have been listening to the prattle, but I’d zoned out. I forced myself to focus.

“Is it true a real-life pioneer lived here?”

I smiled with lots of teeth. “yes. This was once the home of astronaut, Stanley Craddick who discovered…”

“No, that’s not who I’m thinking of. I thought this house belonged to Haley Lindstrom.” I must’ve looked blank or something because she added. “The inventor of long-wear glitter lip gloss with SPF 70 sunscreen.”

My head exploded just a little bit. “You’re comparing the discovery of a habitable planet near Earth to lip gloss?”

“Never underestimate the power of sparkly lips protected from sun damage.”

There was no way I was selling my father’s home to this person. I’d find a way to keep it first.
