I Am Woman, See Me Ruin Science Fiction

Posted by reudaly on October 12, 2009 in Writing |

Apparently there’s some poor, nameless… person who thinks sci-fi is only for men. And put said “argument” on the internet. Where more like-minded…people could agree with said “argument”.

Now, I probably shouldn’t give this…person…the time of day. But it makes me sadly giggle to think because I have girly parts, I have the power to RUIN an entire genre.

Oh, but the rant on SYFY – I agree with the fact the name is still silly and moronic.

So, some on women, let’s go ruin Science Fiction some MORE.

Pity that the “nameless person” thinks that science fiction is what is on TV and film. the fen know that women have been writing science fiction with serious themes ever since C L Moore in the 1930’s(and she created the “Indiana Jones” character in her Northwest Smith, and that Princess character in Jirel of Joiry way back then too, if you are into Space Opera.) As for serious SCIENCE fiction author (esses) how about Octavia Butler, Kate Wilhelm, Nancy Kress, Ursula LeGuin, etc etc etc lo these 40 years and more?

You serve no one’s interests dismissing this guy’s blog the way you do. Though his ideas are misguided, his frustration is genuine and there is some kernel of truth in it, something that your casual disregard only helps to highlight.
